Man charged over Sunderland pedestrian death

A man from Sunderland has been charged in connection with the death of a teenage pedestrian on Wearside.

Sarah Jane Burke suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a vehicle in Ormonde Street on 17 September.

The 17-year-old, of Cleveland Road, Sunderland, died in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary a few days later.

David Baillie, 39, of Magdalene Place, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He is due before South Tyneside Magistrates Court later.
