Plans unveiled for £11m leisure centre in Washington

Proposed Washington Leisure Centre The new centre is due to be completed by 2015

Plans have been unveiled for an £11m leisure centre in Washington, near Sunderland.

The centre would be built adjacent to the town's existing complex, which is due to close in 2015.

Sunderland City Council said facilities would include a six lane 25m pool, a four court sports hall, sauna, gym and football pitches.

A council spokesman said the centre would be paid for out of an existing £60m capital programme fund.
