Woman raped in Newcastle's Scotswood road area

A woman has been raped in bushes in the west end of Newcastle.

The attack happened in the Scotswood Road area of the city at about 01:00 BST.

The woman was walking near Newcastle College car park when she was approached by a man who took her into bushes and raped her, police said.

The man, who spoke with a local Tyneside accent, is described as white, about 30 years old, about 5ft 7in tall and of medium build.

He had mousey brown or dark-coloured hair and was wearing dark clothing and a short-sleeved T-shirt, police said.

Northumbria Police said the area had been cordoned off and extra officers were there to offer reassurance.
