Callerton Parkway Metro disrupted by car-on-crossing crash

Metro services in Newcastle were disrupted when a car was involved in a collision with a train.

The crash took place at about 18:00 BST close to Callerton Parkway Metro stop near Kingston Park.

Northumbria Police said nobody was hurt, but Metro services between Kingston Park and Newcastle Airport were temporarily disrupted.

A force spokesperson added inquires were ongoing to establish the cause of the collision.

In December 2008, Tyne and Wear Metro operator Nexus fitted cameras following motorists trying to jump the red lights at the crossing.
