Homes prone to flooding in North Shields are to benefit from a £350,000 flood protection scheme.

The work will help protect 13 homes on Lansdowne Terrace West and Fern Road which have previously flooded in heavy rainfall.

The two-month scheme, which begins on Monday, involves increasing the size of a 400ft (120m) length of sewer pipe.

Sections of the road will be closed while work is carried out, Northumbrian Water said.
