Man dies in Brandon house explosion

A man has died after an explosion at his house in County Durham.

The 52-year-old man was killed in the blast in Moor Edge, Brandon, which blew out windows and part of the roof.

A second man, 66, managed to escape the house after the explosion, which happened at about 18:30 BST on Sunday, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said.

The service is investigating along with police. The 66-year-old man was taken to hospital.

Several neighbours called the emergency services when flames could be seen coming from the roof.

Fire crews from Durham, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland went to the house.
