IPCC investigates officers who spoke to A1 crash man

The police watchdog is investigating the actions of two Northumbria Police officers who spoke to a man before he was hit by a car on the A1.

The 42-year-old van driver was spoken to after an accident with a lorry on 10 August, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.

He was then struck near Washington Services after "apparently running across the carriageway".

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police are investigating both collisions and are seeking the driver of the car, which did not stop after hitting the man.
