Newcastle rapes 'not linked' Northumbria Police say

Police in Newcastle have said they are not linking two rapes which happened in the space of just over 24 hours.

It follows a report by a 46-year-old woman that she was attacked close to Bath Lane on a grassed area near the city walls, early on Saturday.

Her assailant is described as about 6ft tall with dark wavy hair.

In a separate incident, early on Friday, a 19-year old woman was raped in Dispensary Lane, behind the Gate entertainment complex.

Her attacker had "distinctive" orange and white face paint under his eyes and on his forehead, police said.
