Berwick house fire: Sixty people leave their homes

Dozens of homes were evacuated amid fears of a gas explosion after a fire at a house in Northumberland.

Police said 60 residents were ordered to leave their homes in Howick Terrace, Berwick-upon-Tweed, when it was feared the blaze could trigger an explosion.

No-one was injured in the incident and people were allowed back into properties several hours later.

Police and firefighters have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire, which badly damaged one property.
