Man arrested after woman and dog killed in Prudhoe

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman and her dog were killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash in Northumberland.

The woman, 64, was crossing the B6395 Stonyflat Bank in Prudhoe when she was hit by a car at about 22:25 BST on Saturday, Northumbria Police said.

Officers said the driver failed to stop at the scene.

Police said a dark-coloured Saab car had been recovered.
