Man charged over death of MBE recipient Roy Toogood

A man has been charged in connection with death of a pedestrian in North Tyneside in February.

Roy Toogood, 66, died after being struck by a car on Beach Road in North Shields on 18 February.

The former operations manager, from Cullercoats, North Tyneside, received an MBE in 2000 for his work with HM Revenue and Customs.

The 18-year-old has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court in August.

Mr Toogood was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, but later died.
