Pedestrian Andrew Dawson killed by taxi in Quaking Houses

A pedestrian died when he was hit by a taxi in County Durham.

Andrew Dawson was struck by the vehicle on Newacres Road, close to the junction with Wagtail Lane, in Quaking Houses, on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old, from Craghead, was pronounced dead in hospital. The taxi driver was treated for shock.

Durham Police has appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time - about 23:00 BST - or saw Mr Dawson or the taxi earlier, to contact the force.
