A state-of-the-art food testing centre has opened at Newcastle University.

Potential research could include testing whether supermarket cornflakes taste the same as branded ones and whether tomatoes are better kept in the fridge.

It is hoped it will provide opportunities to work with the food industry to develop new foods.

Julie Smith reports.
