Sunderland marathon and city race attract thousands

Race finish line The races started and ended at the Stadium of Light

Thousands of runners have taken part in road races in Sunderland.

The Marathon of the North, half marathon and Sunderland City 10K, also attracted crowds of spectators, despite the cold and showery weather.

A minute's silence was held at the start in memory of victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The races, all of which began and ended at the Stadium of Light, led to a series of road closures around the city centre.
