Man dies after Lobley Hill Road crash in Gateshead

A man has been killed in an early-morning crash in Gateshead.

Michael Andrew Massey was travelling in a Renault Clio which left the A692 Lobley Hill Road at Byer Moor.

The 33-year-old, from Birch Crescent in Burnopfield in County Durham, was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, but died.

A second man in the car sustained a head injury. Officers are appealing for a motorist who stopped at the scene at about 05:00 GMT to contact them.
