Man, 20, charged after collision in Newcastle

A 20-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after a collision in Newcastle left a man with "life threatening" injuries.

Police were called to Great North Road at about 02:30 GMT on 1 November after a pedestrian was struck by a car.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is still recovering, police said.

The 20-year-old man was also charged with drink driving and failing to stop.

He will appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 28 March.
