Sunderland traffic light upgrade of Grange crossroad begins
Work to upgrade traffic lights at a busy Sunderland junction used by 24,000 drivers a day has begun.
The four-week project will replace the 30-year-old system at the Grange A1018 Newcastle Road junction in Fulwell with lights with sensors.
Sunderland Council said the £234,000 lights will react to the flow of traffic easing congestion.
A spokesman said that disruption to drivers would be kept to a minimum while the work was carried out.
