Durham Cathedral service honours Olympic torchbearers

County Durham torchbearers at Durham Cathedral Torchbearers were awarded commemorative certificates

A cathedral service has been held to honour Olympic torchbearers and those who took part in the Paralympic Flame celebration in County Durham last year.

Saturday's event, at Durham Cathedral, was due to have taken place last month, but was cancelled due to bad weather.

The Civic Service of Thanksgiving saw torchbearers receive certificates from Durham County Council.

Council chair Linda Marshall it was right to honour those who took part in the "once in a lifetime event".
