Gateshead flood protection scheme to begin

An area of Gateshead prone to flooding is to benefit from a £190,000 flood protection scheme.

Northumbrian Water has announced it will improve the sewerage network around Ashtrees Gardens and Valley Drive in Low Fell.

The two-month scheme will begin on Monday will involve installing 45 metres of sewer pipe.

Ashtrees Gardens will be closed to motorists and a lane closure will be in place on Valley Drive until 29 March.

Graham Watson, project manager for the scheme, said: "This is one of dozens of improvement schemes we will be carrying out throughout the region over the next couple of years to upgrade our vast sewerage network."
