John Farrow death: Man held on manslaughter charge

A man has been re-arrested after a 74-year-old man died four days after being hospitalised, police said.

Police were called to the home of John Farrow in Burns Avenue South, Houghton-le-Spring, early on 20 January after reports of a disturbance.

Mr Farrow was found injured and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital. He died on Thursday.

A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault, was re-arrested and bailed on suspicion of manslaughter.

Northumbria Police has not released the cause of death.
