Blaydon £20m regeneration could bring 350 jobs
A £20m regeneration of Blaydon Shopping Centre could bring 350 jobs to Tyneside, Gateshead Council have said.
The work, to begin on Monday, will take approximately 18 months and include a new supermarket, two retail units, a youth club and a community centre.
Access to the shopping centre from Shibdon Road will be closed with diversions in place.
Leader of Gateshead Council, Mick Henry said the regeneration was a "great vote of confidence from the private sector".
Chainbridge Medical Practice and Blaydon Day Centre will also be given new buildings in the revamp.
Mr Henry said: "This is a large scale project, delivering new facilities, a boost to our retail economy and new jobs at a time when we most need them."
