A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murdering a father-of-two who was stabbed in County Durham.

David Scott, 33, was found with stab wounds in a back lane in Rose Avenue, Stanley, on 23 December and pronounced dead at a hospital in Newcastle.

The teenager from Stanley, who cannot be identified, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court earlier.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday.
