Man held over Sunderland nightclub stabbing

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in a Sunderland club in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The 24-year-old victim was in the Basement and Utopia Bar in the city's Green Terrace when he suffered stab wounds to his arm.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said his injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
