Firearms and ammunition taken from car in Sunderland

A shotgun and two rifles were stolen from a car parked in Southwick, Sunderland.

Thieves also stole ammunition from the vehicle which was parked on Old Mill Road.

Northumbria Police said extra patrols were taking place in the area after the legally-held weapons were taken on Saturday afternoon.

Det Insp Paul Woods said: "We are doing everything possible to trace the firearms and the people involved."
