Man bailed over death of Joan Farran in Hebburn

Police have named an elderly woman, whose death on South Tyneside is being treated as unexplained.

The body of 86-year-old Joan Farran was discovered at her home in Dorset Avenue, Hebburn, on Monday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination is being carried out in an effort to establish an exact cause of death.

A 57-year-old man, who Northumbria Police said was was known to Mrs Farran, was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

A force spokeswoman said they were not looking for anyone else.
