Three men and a woman arrested in Benton Wheatsheaf car park shooting probe

Four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a man in a North Tyneside pub car park.

Police said the man in his 40s was specifically targeted outside the Wheatsheaf on Whitley Road, Benton.

He is in a stable condition. Two men and a woman have been bailed in connection with the attack and a 47-year-old man is still in custody.

Police said there may have been a disturbance in the car park at the time of the shooting at 17:00 GMT on Friday.

Officers said there was a lot of traffic in the area at the time of the shooting and appealed for witnesses.

Extra officers had been sent to the area to reassure the public, a police spokeswoman said.

She said: "Benton Lane nearby was very busy with traffic so we want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious.

"This was not a random attack, the victim was specifically targeted."
