Fifteen anglers were rescued after a wave hit Roker Pier in Sunderland
Fifteen anglers have been rescued by the RNLI after a wave hit Roker Pier in Sunderland.
One man was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle with a broken leg after a 5m (16ft) wave pushed him into railings at about 13:30 GMT.
The other anglers were led to safety through a tunnel beneath the pier.
In a separate incident two anglers had to be rescued in Horden, County Durham, after they were dragged into the North Sea.
A man was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
