Man injured in Wheatsheaf car park shooting in Newcastle

A man has been shot in the car park of a pub in Newcastle.

Staff at The Wheatsheaf on Whitley Road, Benton, said the injured man came into the pub to ask for help.

A man in his 40s was taken to hospital with injuries thought to be "consistent with a gunshot wound", police said. He is said to be in a "stable" condition.

Northumbria Police said there may have been a disturbance in the car park before the shooting, which was reported just after 17:00 GMT.

Extra officers had been sent to the area as a precaution, said the force.
