Baltic arts centre wins lottery award

The Baltic in Gateshead has been named the UK's Best Arts Project in the National Lottery Awards 2012.

The awards are part of the annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects.

The art gallery will receive a cheque for £2,000 and what is described as a "glittering trophy".

Housed in a former flour mill in Gateshead, the Baltic is a centre for contemporary art including emerging local artists.
