Durham Road A167 to close for improvement work
Part of a major road in Gateshead is to close on Sunday for improvement work.
The section of the A167 Durham Road between the junctions of Dryden Road and Prince Consort Road will be closed between 06:00 GMT and midnight.
Gateshead Council said a rarely-used footbridge will be replaced with a light-controlled pedestrian crossing.
A diversion will be signposted and the authority said it was working with bus operators to minimise disruption.
The removal of the bridge is the first part of plans to make improvements to the junctions in the area.
The second phase, which includes improvements to the paving, landscaping and public space surrounding the Gateshead cenotaph, is set to start in December.
