Man released on bail after hit-and-run in Newcastle

A man arrested in connection with a hit-and-run driving incident in Newcastle in which a man suffered "life threatening" injuries, has been bailed.

Police were called to Great North Road at about 02:30 GMT on Thursday after a pedestrian was struck by a car.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and police say his condition is critical.

The 20-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
