Barnard Castle baby case: Arrested couple bailed

A County Durham couple arrested after going missing with their four-month-old baby who was in care have been bailed.

The girl went missing from Stanley on Monday and all three were found in a pub in Barnard Castle on Tuesday.

The woman, aged 31, and man, aged 29, were arrested on suspicion of exposing a child to neglect.

The pair from Annfield Plain have been bailed until until mid-December. The baby is back in the care of social services.

Stanley Councillor Carl Marshall said Durham County Council was carrying out an internal inquiry into the case.
