Two killed in separate road accidents

A man was killed when two cars collided on Tyneside.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A6076 near Sunniside, Gateshead, on Saturday morning.

On Friday evening a pedestrian died in hospital after he was struck by a car in Doxford Park, Sunderland.

It was reported that he was flown to a Middlesbrough hospital, after a bank of snow forced the air ambulance to abandon plans to take him to Newcastle.

The 55-year-old was pronounced dead at the James Cook University Hospital.

Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the A6076 crash, near to the entrance to the Tanfield Railway, at 07:50 BST and the Sunderland incident on Burdon Lane at 16.45 BST.
