Northumberland crash victims named

Two people who died in a crash in Northumberland have been named.

Ronald Smailes, 79, and Sheila Elizabeth Smailes, 74, from Wooler, were travelling in a Ford Focus which was in collision with a Mazda.

Police said the crash happened at 16:10 BST on Tuesday on the A697, north of the Alnwick Moor crossroads near the Swarland Mill.

The driver of the Mazda was not seriously injured. Northumbria Police have appealed for witnesses.
