Sunderland Newcastle derby: 20 arrests made

A total of 20 arrests were made by officers policing the derby between Sunderland and Newcastle United.

Police praised the majority of the 50,000 fans for their behaviour and said there were "very few" incidents at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

One allegation of racist language by a supporter at the ground is under investigation by Northumbria Police.

Ch Supt Steve Neill said: "The vast majority of fans were well behaved and enjoyed the derby."

Sunday's Premier League match ended in a 1-1 draw.
