Sunderland motorist suffered 'racial abuse'

A driver had abuse shouted at him in what police believe was a racially motivated attack in Sunderland.

It happened as an English Defence League (EDL) protest was taking place in St Mark's Road on Saturday.

The male driver had abuse shouted at him by a number of people and his car was kicked, resulting in £200 worth of damage.

Police say this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and they are trying to trace those responsible.
