Men charged after officers hurt in North Tyneside collision

Two men have been charged after two police officers were injured in a collision in North Tyneside.

Officers were called to Carlisle Way, Holystone, early on Saturday following reports of a house burglary.

The two officers were injured when their patrol car collided with a vehicle as they entered the street.

Two men aged 39 and 40 have been charged with three counts of burglary and two counts of theft from motor vehicles.

The 40-year-old was also charged with dangerous driving.

The pair have been remanded in custody and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday 22 October.

Both officers were taken to North Tyneside Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
