AA jobs to be transferred from Cardiff to Newcastle

Almost 200 insurance jobs are to be transferred to Newcastle from Cardiff, the AA has announced.

The company said it would be focusing its call centre activity in Newcastle while its Cardiff base would move to smaller offices within two years.

A rise in online purchasing is behind the move and 400 jobs will be lost in Wales.

Just under 3,000 of the AA's 8,000-strong workforce is currently based in call centres.

The AA's Tyneside headquarters is at the Newcastle Business Park, off Scotswood Road in the city.

The changes follow a UK-wide review.

In a statement, the company said: "The net loss is likely to be made up of about 406 roles in the Cardiff contact centre with future insurance call centre activity being focused at the AA-owned Newcastle office, where 183 new jobs are expected to be created."
