A1 in Gateshead closed overnight for resurfacing work

A 2.5-mile (4km) section of the A1 in Gateshead is to be closed overnight for two weeks for resurfacing work.

The Highways Agency will be carrying out work between Junction 65 Birtley Interchange and Eighton Lodge Interchange in Gateshead.

The work includes resurfacing the north and southbound carriageways, replacing road markings and applying a high friction surface.

The work will take place from 28 August to 15 September.

During the closures, diversion routes will be implemented and a 50mph speed limit will be in place.

A Highways Agency spokesman said road users should plan their journeys to avoid delays.
