Cyclist death on A193 in Wallsend sparks witness appeal

Witnesses are being sought by police after the death of a cyclist in North Tyneside.

The 21-year-old woman was on the A193 in Wallsend, near Ropery Lane, at 15:45 BST on Wednesday when it is thought she fell off her bike as a bus was passing.

She was treated for serious injuries at the Royal Victoria Infirmary but died.

Northumbria police say they believe she was riding on the pavement and fell - on to the pavement towards the road - as a single decker bus went by.

They are trying to establish what happened.

The A193 Church Bank was closed for about four hours while an investigation took place.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them, particularly passengers who were on the Number One Go North East coast bus between Wallsend High Street and Rosehill Social Club.
