Six arrests after man's death in South Shields

A 30-year-old man was found dead at a property in South Tyneside after police were called to reports of a fight.

Northumbria Police officers went to the disturbance in Longleat Gardens, South Shields, shortly before 01:30 BST.

Four people, two men aged 23 and 29 and two women aged 26 and 30 were arrested. An 18-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl were arrested later.

The man who died has not been identified and a post-mortem examination is being held later.

Det Ch Insp Christina Barrett, who is leading the investigation, said: "A number of arrests were quickly made and it is believed all those involved knew each other."

She appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.
