Man arrested after boy, 11, hurt in Easington Lane crash

A man has been arrested after an 11-year-old boy was seriously hurt in a collision with a van while riding his bike near Sunderland.

Police described the youngster's injuries as "potentially life-threatening" after the incident at Easington Lane on Monday.

The boy, who has not been named, was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary by air ambulance.

Northumbria Police said a 49-year-old man had been bailed pending inquiries.
