Man arrested after fatal Gateshead stabbing

A murder investigation has begun after a man was fatally stabbed in Gateshead.

Police officers were called to an address in Rayleigh Grove, Bensham at about 21:00 BST on Saturday.

The victim, who is believed to be local, died at the scene from stab wounds. A 35-year-old man has been arrested.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "Officers would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and both men knew each other."
