Driver dies after motorbike crash in Northumberland

A motorist has died after his car collided with a motorbike and burst into flames in Northumberland.

Both the driver and motorcylist were airlifted to hospital after the crash on the A697 at Heighley Gate near Morpeth on Saturday morning.

Northumbria Police said the driver died later and the biker is being treated for serious injuries.

Officers are trying to establish what happened and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Jason Ryder, of the Northumbria force, said: "This as been a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the injured man."
