Two arrested after man's body found South Shields

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was discovered lying in a back lane in South Shields.

The 25-year-old man, who has not been named, was found unconscious in South Frederick Street just after 23:00 BST on Friday and later died.

Police said a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out on Saturday.

A 27-year-old man and 19-year-old woman are in custody being questioned on suspicion of murder, police said.
