Dog walker comes across Steller Sea Eagle in Gateshead

25 June 2012 Last updated at 16:27 BST

Running into a bird of prey was the last thing Lindsey Hutchinson expected when she took her dogs for a walk in woodland near her Gateshead home.

She spotted the large bird, which turned out to be a Steller Sea Eagle - which has a 9ft wingspan - in a field and quickly put her pets on their leads.

Ms Hutchinson called a local bird sanctuary which captured the eagle. Staff are now trying to trace its owner.
