Driver killed on A69 named as

Police have released the name of the driver killed when his car overturned on the A69 in Northumberland.

Colin Swan died when his Mercedes veered across the carriageway and hit a bridge parapet near the Ovington junction on Saturday.

The 50-year-old, of Wansford Way in Whickham, was declared dead at the scene.

No other vehicle was involved. Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident at 07:20 BST.

The westbound section of the A69 was closed for several hours whilst investigations took place. It is not thought that any other vehicles were involved.
