Scrapyard fire in Newcastle treated as arson by police

A fire that broke out at a scrapyard in Newcastle is being treated by police as suspected arson.

Police say 50 scrapped cars had been damaged in the fire that took place at Marshall's Scrap Yard in the Newburn area of the city.

It is thought the blaze started at about 03:00 BST. It took the fire service more than two hours to put out.

Police are appealing for witnesses. They are treating the incident as arson and said inquiries were continuing.
