North Tyneside offshore centre creates 80 new jobs

Up to 80 new jobs are being created with the construction of a new offshore training complex in North Tyneside.

The Offshore Skills Centre will provide industrial training in working at a height, in a confined space and rigging and lifting for about 2,000 per year.

Developed by Advanced Industrial Solutions (AIS), it will create up to 80 new jobs over the next three years.

Elected Mayor for North Tyneside, Linda Arkley, said it was an "enormous boost" for skills in the area.

The centre, which received support from North Tyneside Council, will also provide specialist training for the renewable energy sector.

Paul Stonebanks, managing director of AIS, said it was keen to enhance the already well recognised reputation of the North East in the offshore sector.

Since opening a new specialist training centre and manufacturing facility last January, the company has expanded its workforce from six in 2009 to a team of 32 currently.
