Newcastle's Nile Ranger given conditional discharge after drunk charge

Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been given a six-month conditional discharge after admitting being drunk and disorderly.

The 20-year-old was arrested in Cathedral Square, in Newcastle city centre, in the early hours on 30 October 2011.

The player, of Forest Hall, North Tyneside, appeared before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Ranger was also ordered to pay £135 costs.

Earlier this month Ranger was fined £6,000 by the Football Association over a homophobic comment made on social networking side Twitter.

In November, he was fined £3,300 after he admitted drinking and driving.

Ranger is currently on bail accused of four assault charges and is likely to face a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in June.
